What it does
Chatbase lets you build an AI chat agent from your own content. You point it at your website, upload documents or add FAQs, and it answers visitors’ questions in a chat window on your site.
It suits small businesses that want an AI agent on their website without moving to a full help desk.
Why use it
- A working chat agent from your website in minutes.
- Answers come from your own pages, documents and FAQs.
- You can set its tone and what it should never answer.
How it works
- Sign up and add your website address, files or FAQs.
- Ask it test questions and correct any wrong answers.
- Set its tone and what it should never answer.
- Add the chat window to your site with the code or plug-in it gives you.
- Read the chat logs each week and add missing information.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
Getting a first chat agent running takes minutes, which is why we rate it Beginner. Making it reliable needs testing and regular checks of its answers.
What it costs
Free plan; paid plans. A free plan with a small monthly allowance of message credits. Paid plans add more credits, team members and connections to other apps, such as help desks and WhatsApp.
Prices change often, so check Chatbase’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- It can give confident wrong answers, so check its replies on prices, refunds and policies.
- Message allowances run out as your traffic grows.
- On the free plan, an agent nobody uses for 14 days is deleted.
- Tell visitors they are chatting with AI, and give them a way to reach a person.
Your data
Visitors’ chats and the content you upload are processed by Chatbase and the AI companies it uses. Check its privacy policy for where data is stored and whether it is used for training.
We haven’t confirmed that Chatbase can keep your data in the UK, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
