Our verdict
Being tested. An editor is using IFTTT hands-on; the verdict and score appear here once they sign it off.
What it does
IFTTT (short for “if this, then that”) links apps and devices with simple rules called applets. When something happens in one service, such as a new email, a change in the weather or a smart doorbell ringing, it does something in another.
It connects many apps and smart home devices, and its top plan, Pro+, adds AI services that can be part of an applet.
Why use it
- Ready-made applets get you started in minutes.
- It connects smart home devices as well as apps.
- A free plan covers a few simple automations.
How it works
- Sign up on the IFTTT website or app.
- Browse ready-made applets, or create your own.
- Choose a trigger (“if this”) and an action (“then that”).
- Connect the services involved, then switch the applet on.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
Built for beginners: one trigger and one action at a time, which is why we rate it Beginner.
What it costs
Free plan; paid plans. A free plan with a couple of simple applets. The paid Pro and Pro+ plans allow more applets, more steps and faster checks, and Pro+ adds the AI services.
Prices change often, so check IFTTT’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- Each service you connect gives IFTTT access to it, so connect only what you need.
- It is built for simple rules; complex business workflows need a more powerful tool.
Your data
Every service you connect shares data with IFTTT. Check its privacy policy, and remove connections you no longer use.
