What it does
Kapwing is a video editor that runs in your web browser. Alongside a timeline editor it has more than 30 AI tools, including automatic subtitles and dubbing in over 100 languages, Smart Cut to remove pauses and filler words, AI video and image generation, and Kai, an assistant that makes edits from written instructions.
It suits marketers, teachers and small teams who make social and explainer videos together. There is no app to install: it works on computers and in phone browsers.

How it works
- Go to the Kapwing website and sign up for free.
- Upload a video, paste a link to one or start from a template.
- Use the AI tools, or ask Kai, to add subtitles, cut pauses or make short clips.
- Check the result on the timeline and fix anything it got wrong.
- Resize the video for each social network and export it.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
The basics take minutes to learn and nothing needs installing, which is why we rate it Beginner. The full editor has many options, so longer projects take more practice.
What it costs
Free plan; paid plans. A free plan with a small allowance of AI credits; its exports carry a watermark and are limited to short 720p videos. Paid plans (Pro, Business and Enterprise) remove the watermark and add more credits, 4K exports, longer videos, brand kits and team features.
Prices change often, so check Kapwing’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- AI credits are limited on every plan, so heavy use of dubbing or video generation pushes up the cost.
- You must be 13 or over, and you need permission before using anyone’s face or voice.
- There is no phone app, so editing on a phone means using the website.
Your data
Kapwing says it doesn’t train AI models on your content, and where it can, it agrees contracts that stop the AI companies it uses, such as OpenAI, from training on it. Its servers are in the United States, on Google Cloud.
We haven’t confirmed that Kapwing can keep your data in the UK, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
