Our verdict

Being tested. An editor is using Read AI hands-on; the verdict and score appear here once they sign it off.

What it does

Read AI joins your Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams calls, or records from its desktop and phone apps, and writes a transcript, summary and action items. You can connect your email and chat too, then ask questions across all of it with Ask Read.

It suits people with many meetings who want quick catch-up reports. When it joins a call it introduces itself and explains how anyone can stop it.

Why use it

  • Summaries, transcripts and action items arrive soon after each call.
  • Ask Read answers questions across your meetings and connected apps.
  • Anyone in the call can remove it from the chat, and “Opt out” also deletes the recording.
  • Desktop and phone apps record calls and in-person meetings without a bot.

How it works

  1. Sign up and connect your calendar.
  2. Choose which meetings Read joins, or record from the desktop or phone app.
  3. Tell everyone at the start that Read is taking notes.
  4. Read the summary and action items after the call.
  5. Use Ask Read to search across your meetings.

How hard is it to use?

Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.

Once your calendar is connected it joins the meetings you choose, so we rate it Beginner. Spend a few minutes on its settings so it only joins the right calls.

What it costs

Free plan; paid plans. A free plan covers a few meetings a month, each up to an hour. Paid plans add unlimited meetings, longer recordings and more integrations; higher tiers add video playback and admin and security controls.

Prices change often, so check Read AI’s own site before you pay.

Watch out for

  • When you record from the desktop or phone app no bot appears, so you must tell people and get their agreement.
  • Connecting email and chat gives it a lot of your work; connect only what you need.
  • Once linked to your calendar it can join meetings for you, so check which meetings it is set to join.

Your data

Read AI says it doesn’t use your meetings to train its AI unless you opt in to its Customer Experience Program. Data is stored in the US by default, with EU, Canadian and Australian regions also offered.

We haven’t confirmed that Read AI can keep your data in the UK, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
