Our verdict
Being tested. An editor is using Wispr Flow hands-on; the verdict and score appear here once they sign it off.
What it does
Wispr Flow lets you write by speaking. Hold a key, talk naturally, and it types what you said into whatever app you are using, such as email, documents or chat, taking out filler words and adding punctuation.
It suits people who think faster than they type, or who find typing hard.
Why use it
- It works in almost any app, wherever you can type.
- It takes out filler words and adds punctuation.
- Speaking is often quicker than typing for emails and notes.
How it works
- Download Wispr Flow for your computer or phone and sign up.
- Give it permission to use your microphone.
- Click where you want to type, then hold the shortcut key and speak.
- Let go of the key and check the text it typed.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
Hold a key and talk, which is why we rate it Beginner.
What it costs
Free plan; paid plans. The free plan lets you dictate a set number of words each week. Paid plans remove the limit and add team features.
Prices change often, so check Wispr Flow’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- Check names, numbers and technical terms, which dictation can get wrong.
- It needs permission to hear your microphone and type into other apps, so check your employer allows it.
Your data
Wispr says that with Privacy Mode on, your dictation is processed without being stored and is never used to train its models. Turn it on, and check its data controls, before you dictate anything confidential.
We haven’t confirmed that Wispr Flow can keep your data in the UK, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
