Our verdict
Being tested. An editor is using Brisk Teaching hands-on; the verdict and score appear here once they sign it off.
What it does
Brisk Teaching is an AI extension for the Chrome and Edge browsers. A button appears in the corner of Google Docs, Word, Slides, PowerPoint, PDFs, web articles and YouTube, and lets you draft feedback on a pupil’s writing, change the reading level of a text, or turn what is on screen into a quiz, lesson plan or presentation.
It suits teachers who want AI inside the tools they already use rather than on another website. Inspect Writing looks at a submission’s depth, structure and originality, and Brisk Boost turns a text into activities for pupils.
Why use it
- It works inside Google Docs, Word, Slides, PowerPoint, PDFs and YouTube, so there’s no new site to learn.
- It drafts personal comments on pupils’ writing for you to check, edit and send.
- Change Level rewrites a text for a different reading age, or translates it.
- The free plan is meant to last, and what you make saves to Google Drive or OneDrive.
How it works
- Add the Brisk extension to Chrome or Edge and create a free account.
- Open a pupil’s document, a web article, a PDF or a YouTube video.
- Click the Brisk button in the bottom right corner and choose a tool.
- Tell it the year group and what you’re looking for, then check what it drafts.
- Edit the result, which saves to your Google Drive or OneDrive.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
Once the extension is installed, every tool is a button inside documents you already use. Feedback is only as good as the criteria you give it, so spell those out.
What it costs
Free plan; paid plans. Brisk Educator Free is a lasting free plan with usage limits. Educator Pro adds more use and extra tools for one teacher; school plans remove usage caps and add an admin dashboard and AI grounded in the school’s own curriculum.
Prices change often, so check Brisk Teaching’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- Its built-in standards are mostly American, plus IB and CEFR, so name the Key Stage, specification and exam board yourself.
- AI feedback can miss the point of a piece or mark it against the wrong criteria, so read it before pupils do.
- Pupils under 13 can use Brisk Boost only through their school: check it against your data protection policy and the Department for Education’s safety expectations first.
Your data
Brisk says pupils’ and teachers’ work is never used to train AI models, and it doesn’t keep pupils’ work once a task is done. Data is processed and stored in the US, and Brisk publishes a separate privacy notice for UK and European users.
We haven’t confirmed that Brisk Teaching can keep your data in the UK, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
