Our verdict
Being tested. An editor is using Diffit hands-on; the verdict and score appear here once they sign it off.
What it does
Diffit turns any text, PDF, web page, video transcript or topic into a set of resources at a reading level you choose: a levelled passage, vocabulary support and questions. You can then ask Diffit Chat to change the level, swap activities, add a teacher guide or translate it.
It suits teachers who need several versions of the same content for pupils who read at different levels, including those learning English. Only teachers have accounts: pupils never sign in, so Diffit collects no pupil data.
Why use it
- Makes several versions of one text, at different reading levels, in minutes.
- Starts from almost anything: pasted text, a PDF, a web link, a YouTube video or a topic.
- Translates resources for pupils who are learning English.
- Pupils never sign in, so there’s no pupil data to manage.
How it works
- Sign up for a free teacher account on the Diffit website.
- Paste a text, upload a PDF, add a link or type a topic.
- Choose a US grade for the reading level: one below the UK year, so Year 6 is Grade 5.
- Check the passage, vocabulary and questions, and ask Diffit Chat for changes.
- Print it or download a PDF, or export to Google or Microsoft on a paid plan.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
You paste in a text, pick a level and get a set of resources back. The only learning curve is converting UK year groups into the US grades it uses.
What it costs
Free plan; paid plans. The free Basic plan makes resources you can print or download as PDFs, and keeps the last 90 days of your work. Premium, for one teacher or a whole school, adds exports to Google and Microsoft, curriculum alignment and your full history.
Prices change often, so check Diffit’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- Reading levels follow US grades and a US readability formula, so check the text suits your pupils rather than trusting the label.
- AI-written passages can contain mistakes or oversimplify, so read each one before it reaches a class.
- The free plan only keeps your last 90 days of work, so download anything you want to keep.
Your data
Diffit says it collects no pupil data, because only teachers have accounts, and no personal data is used to train outside companies’ AI models. Personal data is stored in the US.
We haven’t confirmed that Diffit can keep your data in the UK, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
