What it does
MagicSchool is a collection of more than 80 AI tools for teachers. You pick a tool, such as the lesson plan, worksheet or quiz generator, fill in a short form, and it drafts the resource for you to check and edit. Raina, its built-in chatbot, helps with ideas and changes.
It suits teachers who want lots of starting points in one place. Schools can also give pupils its student tools, through accounts that teachers set up and can see. It is built for US schools, so you get better results when you name the Key Stage, year group and exam board.
Why use it
- More than 80 tools in one place, from lesson plans and quizzes to rubrics and feedback on writing.
- The free plan is meant to last, so you can use it even if your school doesn’t pay for it.
- It can translate what you make into dozens of languages for pupils and families.
- A Chrome extension brings its tools into the web pages and documents you already use.
How it works
- Sign up for a free account on the MagicSchool website.
- Choose a tool, such as the lesson plan or worksheet generator.
- Fill in the form, including the Key Stage, year group and what pupils should learn.
- Check and edit the draft before you use it with a class.
- Ask Raina, the built-in chatbot, for changes or more ideas.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
You pick a tool and fill in a short form, so a first draft takes minutes. The skill is in checking it and giving UK details, such as the Key Stage and exam board.
What it costs
Free plan; paid plans. A free plan for individual teachers that is meant to last, with usage limits. MagicSchool Plus, paid monthly or yearly, removes the limits and adds extra features; schools can ask about Enterprise, which adds central controls, single sign-on, integrations and a data agreement.
Prices change often, so check MagicSchool’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- It is built for US schools and standards, so check that content, spelling and expectations fit the curriculum and exam board you teach.
- AI can state wrong facts confidently, so check every resource before it reaches pupils.
- Pupils under 18 can only use it through an agreement between your school and MagicSchool: check it against the Department for Education’s safety expectations for AI products first.
Your data
MagicSchool says it doesn’t use personal information to train AI models, and the AI companies it works with can’t store or train on teachers’ or pupils’ data. Data is stored in the US, with legal safeguards for transfers from the UK.
We haven’t confirmed that MagicSchool can keep your data in the UK, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
