Our verdict

Being tested. An editor is using AutoEntry hands-on; the verdict and score appear here once they sign it off.

What it does

AutoEntry, owned by Sage, captures the details from invoices, receipts, bills and bank statements. You photograph them in its app, email them in or upload them, and it reads the figures and publishes them to your accounting software. It works with Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent and other packages.

Plans are bought as monthly credits, and different documents use different numbers of credits. It suits small businesses and the accountants and bookkeepers who do their books.

Why use it

  • It reads bank statements as well as invoices and receipts.
  • Snap documents in the app, email them in or upload them.
  • It works with Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, FreeAgent and others.
  • Unused credits carry over for 90 days.

How it works

  1. Start the free trial on the AutoEntry website, with no card needed.
  2. Connect AutoEntry to your accounting software.
  3. Photograph, email or upload your invoices, receipts and statements.
  4. Check the details it reads, then publish them to your accounts.

How hard is it to use?

Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.

Snapping and uploading documents is simple, which is why we rate it Beginner. Choosing a plan means estimating how many credits you’ll use.

What it costs

Paid plans; free trial. Monthly plans that each include a set number of credits, priced in pounds among other currencies. A standard invoice uses one credit, while line-by-line invoices and bank statement pages use more. A free trial includes some credits, with no card needed.

Prices change often, so check AutoEntry’s own site before you pay.

Watch out for

  • Bank statements use more credits per page, so busy months can cost more.
  • Check the figures it reads before you publish them.
