Our verdict
DraftRemoves the worst of the receipt admin.
What it does
Dext captures receipts, invoices and bills, reads the details with AI and sends them to your accounting software, such as Xero or QuickBooks.
Photograph a receipt or forward an invoice email, and the data entry is done for you.
Why use it
- No more typing in receipts: snap a photo and it is done.
- Invoices forwarded by email are read and filed automatically.
- Publishes straight to Xero, QuickBooks and other accounting software.
- Many UK accountants already use it with their clients.
How it works
- Sign up, or ask your accountant to invite you.
- Connect your accounting software.
- Photograph receipts in the app, or forward invoices to your Dext email address.
- Check the extracted details and publish them to your accounts.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
Simple day to day. The first set-up of categories and suppliers is easier with your accountant’s help.
What it costs
Paid plans; free trial. Paid plans, priced by how many documents you process, with a free trial. Many accountants include it in their fees.
Prices change often, so check Dext’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- Check the extracted totals and VAT, especially on handwritten receipts.
- It is best value when your accountant uses it too.
Your data
It holds your financial records. Use two-factor sign-in, and give your accountant their own login rather than sharing yours.
Dext doesn’t offer UK data storage, so check where it keeps your data before you share anything private or about other people.
