Our verdict

What it does
Pleo gives your team company payment cards, physical and virtual Mastercards, with limits you set, and an app that captures receipts. It reads each receipt, suggests a category and tags with AI, and can fetch receipts from your email. Spending then goes to your accounting software, such as Xero, QuickBooks or Sage, with the receipts attached.
Pleo is a Danish company, based in Copenhagen. It suits small and medium businesses whose staff spend money on the company’s behalf.
Why use it
- Staff pay with company cards instead of their own money.
- Receipts are captured in the app or found in your email, and matched to each payment.
- AI suggests the category and tags for each expense.
- Spending goes to Xero, QuickBooks or Sage with the receipts attached.
How it works
- Start a free trial on Pleo’s website and connect your accounting software.
- Order cards for your team and set spending limits.
- Staff pay with their cards and snap the receipt in the app.
- Check the categories it suggests, then export to your accounts.
How hard is it to use?
Beginner Easy to start. You need an account, not any technical know-how.
Paying and snapping receipts is simple for staff, which is why we rate it Beginner. Setting up categories and the link to your accounts takes a little longer.
What it costs
Paid plans; free trial. Paid monthly plans (Start, Build and Optimise) priced per user, with a free trial.
Prices change often, so check Pleo’s own site before you pay.
Watch out for
- Costs are per user, so they rise as more staff get cards.
- Check the categories and tax rates before you file, because you are responsible for your accounts.
